Some of you have heard me mentioning the word Reiki before, and recently several people wanted to know more about it.
If you have a few moments, continue reading. I’ll explain what it is, what it’s good for and when and where you can learn more about it.
So, what is Reiki?
Reiki is a healing technique and a spiritual practice that was developed in Japan in early last century. It’s practiced by placing your hands on the body.
Reiki does not require any special equipment and therefore can be practiced anywhere.
Anyone, young and old can use it, it’s free and always available.
Reiki is safe – there has been no reported negative effects.
Reiki is not a replacement for medical treatment so consult with your doctor if you have any health conditions.
What is Reiki good for?
Reiki has been used for years to reduce stress and achieve body and mind relaxation, reduce pain, anxiety, reduce side effect of medications and support recovery after injuries or surgery.
Practicing Reiki can help becoming more calm and peaceful under stressful situations.
The emotional benefits of Reiki include: being more positive, increased self awareness and being more in the present.
Reiki may also be useful for medical conditions that may worsen by stress.
Some research suggests that stress reduction may help people manage symptoms of conditions such as: anxiety, depression, pain, sleep problems and high blood pressure.
My experience with Reiki
I’ve been practicing and teaching Reiki for over 15 years. To me Reiki falls into the same category as meditation, Yoga, mindfulness, Tai Chi and any other spiritual/physical work that support deep state of relaxation and quiet mind.
I have experienced the benefits of Reiki first hand, but you don’t have to take my word for it.
here are just few comments from my students about their experience with Reiki.
“No matter what life drops in your path, Reiki will help you step over it.”
“The biggest gift has been clarity of thought and action combined with fearlessness.”
“I implemented the Reiki techniques on my husband and his comment was: I don’t know what you did, but it worked, headache and queeziness is gone.”
“Reiki helps me create work-life balance.”
Reiki is usually taught in 3 levels: beginners, advanced, and master.
Reiki for beginners is a 6-hour hands-on class usually with a small group of students.
By the end of the class you will be trained and certified to give Reiki to yourself and others.
Hopefully this information about Reiki was helpful.
