What is Reiki?
Reiki, pronounced “ray key”, means Universal Life Force.
Reiki is a healing technique and a spiritual practice that was developed in Japan early in the last century. It’s practiced by placing your hands on or just above the body. Reiki is a dynamic tool for tapping into a larger system of universal energy that already flows inside and outside our bodies.
At the end of our Reiki Level 1 Training, you will be certified to give Reiki to yourself and others.
In the beginner’s class, you learn specific routines that you are encouraged to practice daily. One of Reiki’s great advantages is that it does not require any special equipment and therefore can be practiced anywhere. It will be as effective if you choose to combine it with meditation or to practice it throughout your day every time your hands are free. You can give Reiki to yourself while talking, watching TV, sitting in a waiting room or watching a movie. Self- Reiki brings balance and harmony and supports your body’s natural healing abilities.
Taking care of yourself before taking care of others is essential for living a balanced and satisfied life. Many of us give so much to others that at the end of the day we have no energy left for ourselves.
I used to rush into things – in fear they will go away – but no longer.
I decided to study Reiki to help my family and I to have a deeper connection. The benefit was so intense I wanted to stay in meditation all day. It was such a wonderful feeling of bliss. The first benefit was that I was able to quiet my mind. Now, when I face a challenge, instead of my usual harboring and obsession reaction I am able to acknowledge it and let go, without being attached to the outcome. As a coach, going into sessions in that state is a huge benefit for coaching and my coaching clients.

Practicing Reiki can help you become more calm and peaceful under stressful situations.
The emotional benefits of Reiki include: being more positive, increased self-awareness and being more in the present. It also helps to regain focus and perspective with little effort and time.
Reiki may also be useful for medical conditions that may worsen with stress. Some research suggests that stress reduction may help people manage symptoms of conditions such as: anxiety, depression, pain, sleep problems and high blood pressure.
I am actually doing the things I want to do rather than just thinking about them.
Before Reiki I felt a little “at loose ends.” I had lots of projects on my mental to-do list but would find myself spinning my wheels more than accomplishing anything. I am now much more focused and energized with Reiki.

I have always been a religious person, but I just couldn’t seem to find the spiritual connection I was looking for. It took a different kind of practice—Reiki—to help me feel that connection.
I had been through a time of a lot of loss and was dealing with depression. I was thinking about creating more connection with spirituality. Reiki has opened me up to have a lot more insight into my life.
When I feel anxious, I can step back and evaluate where the anxiety is coming from. What is the anxiety trying to teach me, and how can I move through it to get to a place that is not anxious. I don’t just let challenges defeat me, which can lead to feeling powerless and depressed. I try to understand the bigger picture and how I can regain that connection and that power to make my life better.
I was going through cancer treatments, and Reiki offered my family treatment for our souls and mental well-being that the chemotherapy and radiation didn’t provide.
When I first tried Reiki, I had just finished my final cancer treatment. The chemo stays in your system, and I didn’t feel well at all. I didn’t like anything about the way the medical world had been treating my family and me. It was all protocol. There was no treatment for our souls or mental well-being. I found that, without that balance, the chemotherapy and radiation treatments just weren’t as effective.
My cancer is in remission now, and Reiki has become all-encompassing in my life. It has given me calmness and confidence in everything I do. The ability to live on life’s terms. I’m more positive and more grateful. My husband says I’m a different person. Reiki has given me a whole new viewpoint on life. It affects how I react in every situation.
I can see that we’re all just trying to get by. We’re all just trying to make the most of our lives. I put so many hours and so much energy into my job. I was so hooked into this world vision of making money and moving up in my career, but Reiki helped me see that there was no payoff. So I made the difficult decision to retire, and I’ve felt like a different woman ever since. Now I give Reiki as a volunteer at the same hospital infusion center where I received my chemotherapy.

Michal Spiegelman is a Reiki master, energy expert, and life change mentor who has been practicing, teaching, living, and loving Reiki since 1996.
