One Simple Thing You Can Do for Peace

By Michal Spiegelman

One simple thing you can do for peaceIn a time like this where these is so much going on in the world, you might be asking yourself, will there ever be peace?

A lack of peace in the world often disturbs our inner peace.

We know that people or situations should not prevent us from feeling at peace, but the reality is, especially for us women and moms, that we sometimes stay awake at night worrying about our loved ones and wondering what is happening in the world.

I once heard the Dalai Lama speak. He was asked what can be done to stop wars between countries. His response was that it all starts with individuals. He said that every person who practices love and kindness contributes to world peace.

I have to admit that what’s going on in the world lately affects my inner peace. Yes, I should know better and I can easily help my coaching clients get into an observing place and understand how to shift from fear to love, but when it comes to myself and I’m in the midst of an emotional roller-coaster, I drop into a lower place, especially when I feel that my loved ones are not safe. A good friend reminded me yesterday that we always teach what we need to learn.

When my inner peace is disturbed, first, I give myself permission to be human. Then, I use a very powerful tool that helps me bounce back, usually pretty quickly. It’s called Reiki. Using this tool helps me step away from a reactionary mode and choose how to respond from a centered place.
Reiki is the most beautiful self-care practice! You simply place your hands on specific points on your body and you boost your body with the energy it needs to get back to balance and be at peace. Reiki helps you tap into the energy of the universe. Love and kindness automatically flow and you achieve peace.

I started my journey with Reiki in 1996 and I have loved, lived, practiced, and taught Reiki since then. I believe that if more people learned this ancient Japanese healing modality and spiritual practice, the world will be a better place.

Reiki brings peace: peace of mind, inner peace, and peace in the world.

As the Dalai Lama said, it all starts with individuals. Let’s accept responsibility for achieving peace and for making the world a better place simply by practicing love and kindness with ourselves.

Sometimes guilt is good

Have you ever heard of healthy guilt? Unhealthy guilt is toxic, but healthy guilt is a spiritual practice that helps us to recognize which of our values is taking priority. A “lazy” morning watching tv recently put my sense of both to the test.
