It’s not always right to make yourself feel better

By Michal Spiegelman

In all my workshops, classes, lectures, and blogs, I talk about shifting.

My private clients probably ask themselves in their sleep, “How can I upshift right this moment?”

I believe in the power of raising our vibration to a higher level.

I believe in the power of…

Tuning up.

Fueling up.

Deliberately shifting to a higher level of energy is the name of the transformation game.

While spiraling down to a low point happens automatically, starting a positive moment and spiraling up is always possible, and you can choose to do it every single moment.

BUT… there is a BUT!

If you start shifting too early, you might skip an important phase.

It is not always in your favor to shift. Sometimes you need to wait and embrace the low point for the moment.

Dealing with difficulty looks different things to different people: You get physically hurt. You feel overwhelmed. You lose someone. You have a health crisis. You go through a big transition.

You know that you have to shift, but you also know that it’s important to feel the feelings. It’s confusing! Should you throw yourself a “pity party,” or should you do something to make yourself feel better?

Here is what you don’t want to do:

Don’t numb your emotions.

For many years, I escaped to food, using it as my drug of choice to cover up my pain. I wrote more about a good alternative to numbing your emotions in this blog: What are you numbing your emotions with? (Yes, you are!)

Here is the surprising truth about dealing with a difficult time:

When you are dealing with a difficult time, shifting is not always the best thing to do in the moment. It’s all a question of timing.

When you’re going through a tough time, you need to ask yourself 3 questions to make your next step clear.

Question # 1:

Is it best for me to look inward and get support from within?

Question # 2:

Is it best for me to seek external support?

Question # 3:

Is it time for me to shift?

Your intuition is alive. Once you ask yourself these questions, simply listen, and the answer will come. Don’t overthink it! Ask the questions, and feel the answer in your body.

Trust yourself. The answers are within you.

Most importantly, release any resistance you have to experiencing a difficult time.

Life is a series of opportunities for growth and spiritual lessons.

We always have the power to turn challenges into opportunities.

Let me give you an example of what’s next when you get a “yes” to each one of the questions:

Question # 1: Is it best for me to look inward and get support from within?

Spend some alone time with yourself. Be in solitude. Alternate walking in nature, sitting in meditation, giving Reiki to yourself and journaling. Once you feel more at peace, ask yourself the second and the third questions.

Question # 2: Is it best for me to seek external support?

If you get a yes, it means that you are meant to reach out for and accept support. Who is on your support team? Who can you reach out to ask for guidance on dealing with a difficult time? I am always here for you if you choose to reach out to me. Send me a quick note.

Question # 3: Is it time to shift?

Just do it. Don’t wait. If you get a “yes,” begin vibrating from a higher state. Move your body. Shake things up. Walk. Run. Sing. Dance. Do whatever you can to feel better. I shared some fun ways to shift in this blog article: Three Magical Lessons from Mary Poppins.
