You want to lose weight, exercise regularly, or perhaps both. Whatever it is that you are seeking, you are ready to begin!
You have done all the research and made preparations. You are excited to see your results! With this abundance of enthusiasm your plan works great in the beginning, but eventually you fall off the wagon. You are disappointed with yourself, and before you know it, you start spiraling down, losing your motivation. Results weren’t happening fast enough, or maybe you felt all alone on your journey.
Does this sound familiar?
You set up a goal.
You had it all planned out, so what happened?
You couldn’t stay motivated because your very own inner-monologue sabotaged you.
To get the results you want, your inner-work must support your outer-work. Changing your core thoughts and core beliefs to match your external actions is the key to getting results. (Click to retweet)
I can relate. I remember trying to lose weight for many, many years. It was a difficult struggle because my inner monologue kept saying: ?It’s never going to work, you’ve tried it before, people are making fun of you, don’t ask for help, you should be able to do it yourself.?
My inner-work was definitely not supporting my outer-work.
Results: Self-sabotage and an inability to lose the weight.
So how did I eventually lose the weight and keep it off?
Do the inner work!
A big part of my recovery and success maintaining a weight loss of 90 pounds for 8 years has been changing my inner monologue and working at it constantly.
Oprah says: ?You know better; you do better.?
I had the knowledge, but I needed support and a strong inner voice to succeed. When my inner voice was negative, I saw my choices as limited. Building a supportive voice within me opened the door for positive and healthy choices.
Let’s take exercise as an example. What’s your attitude toward exercise? Here are some choices:
- I’m too fat. It never worked before. I’m a loser ? why is this happening to me?
- I have to exercise ? my doctor told me I must. My husband is putting pressure on me. Why can’t they leave me alone?
- Exercise it not always fun, but at least I?ll get away from the craziness in my house!
- I have to take care of ME in order to take care of others. Exercise is taking care of myself.
- I honor my needs and I see the opportunity in exercising. I want to exercise because it makes me feel at peace and energized.
- How I view exercise is totally up to me! When I move my body, I feel connected to my true self and I can better inspire myself and others.
- I am the creator of my life every given moment. I choose to exercise and I love myself no matter what.
Which one of those statement best represents your current inner monologue?
Which one would you like to adopt as your new inner voice to support you and achieve the results you desire?
The key is to shift your attitude towards exercise because you WANT to do it, not because you SHOULD, HAVE to, or NEED to.
Improving your satisfaction level with exercise is a matter of connecting the choices you make with the outcome you really want!

Whatever your attitude currently is toward exercise and/or weight loss, maintaining your goals and desires for change all begins inside of you. Inner-work (positive self-talk and attitude adjustment) and outer-work (exercise, eating right) are not mutually exclusive! They must work hand-in-hand to see results.
