Don’t you love the New Year buzz? There’s a fresh, exciting energy in the air, people are optimistic, and it feels like the world is waking up after a long winter’s nap (even though it is still winter). But wait. As much as we love this new beginning, there is also a part of us that knows that it doesn’t last forever, that naturally, our enthusiasm and motivation fades away and often disappears completely. We run out of steam. Let’s change that scenario.
Instead of asking why it is so hard to stick to New Year’s resolutions, let’s change the question and ask: What can you do differently this year to play the game of life fully, take positive action in all areas of life, and have more success than ever before?
It begins with an age-old truth: to get different results, you need different actions. “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.” ~ Albert Einstein
One of my favorite things to do around this time of year if the New Year Ritual.
Today, I want to share with you my ritual, step by step, like I have been doing it for years.
Step 1 ? Reflect & Celebrate
The last few days of the year are the perfect time for a yearly reflection: looking back at your successes and lessons and celebrating. Celebrating is truly important. We often skip this part and move quickly to the next project, set a new goal or get sucked in with something new. Pause. Reflect. Celebrate your success. And then move forward. The next set of questions will help you do that.
Pick up your journal, get centered in any way you like (my favorite way is giving myself Reiki) and reflect on the following questions:
- What made me happy this year?
- What were 3 top successes this year?
- What were my 3 top challenging moments in the past year?
- What were my top 3 lessons this year?
- What am I giving myself permission to brag on?
- How am I going to celebrate my growth, expansion, and success?
Step 2 ? Create your Vision for the New Year
There is more than one way to create a new vision. You can do it anytime, there is a sacred and special power in doing it on the first day of the year. My favorite way of creating a vision is to simply close my eyes and visualize my future with no limitations, allowing myself to dream big. Read this article to get ideas on creating your vision.
Step 3 ? From vision to Action
Once you reflect on the past year and create a vision for the new year ? it is time to move to action.
Martin Luther King, Jr said: ?You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.?
Schedule quiet time with yourself. Reconnect with the vision you created and write down simple actions you can take to help you move closer to your vision. It is important not to end up with a list of 100 actions! Make it simple. Allow yourself to take small steps. Write down no more than 10 simple actions you can take to help you move from vision to action.

When you get to this step, and I will share with you additional tips. I don’t want you to get overwelled at this point so I?ll help you when I get your email.
Do you know what is the most important thing to remember as you go through the New Year Ritual?
Most importantly, play, have fun and bring ease & light into the process. Enjoy it!
Happy New Year!
