Hello Beacon, and welcome to this week’s Upshifting Vlog. One of the questions that people ask me all the time is, “How do you protect yourself energetically?” Or, “how do you avoid picking up negative energy from other people?”
We pick up energy from other people all day long, and there are different ways to protect ourselves energetically. I want to talk to you today about one of the ways that is really, really important but that many of us neglect: grounding.
I want to show you a picture. A few weeks ago, I was teaching a workshop for empaths. Empaths are people who feel other people’s energy and then take it on themselves. You can take the Empath Quiz to find out if you’re an empath. I used this picture on the cover of the manual for that workshop.
As you can see in this picture, the woman is rooted not only from below but also from above. She’s growing out of the tree, and the branches are growing up in her hands. When you look at this picture, think about what it would be like for you if you had this level of rooting and grounding.
It would make your life easier when you encounter negativity because you would be too stable and strong in your foundation to absorb the negativity. The negativity may remain around you, but you won’t take it on yourself. So grounding is a very important skill to develop for staying centered, regardless of what’s going on externally.
Think about this picture and ask yourself, “What would it look like in my life right now if I felt grounded and centered and connected from below and above?”
You would be connected with the divine, with spirituality from above but also with Mother Earth. You can make this strong connection with the Earth energy through visualization and awareness. You can take a walk outside while being very intentional about making a connection with nature. You can also walk barefoot. These practices are both very grounding.
I want to take you through a grounding and rooting visualization now that you can do with yourself any time.
The Grounding Tree Visualisation
Start by making yourself comfortable. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and just take a minute to connect to your body. Now visualize a large tree with a solid trunk that extends down the center of your body from heart to toe. Now visualize the tree growing down into the ground, deeper and deeper into the center of the earth.
And while you’re visualizing this tree, really feel a solid connection with the earth and feel how your roots are growing down deep, deep, deep into the center of the earth. Keep the grounding that you created below you, and now shift your attention back to your body and visualize branches and leaves that extend up the center of your body, from heart to head. Visualize the tree growing up above the earth, above the universe, higher and higher into the divine, and keep this vertical connection.
When you are rooted below and you are rooted above, stable for a few minutes, allow yourself to feel grounded. Allow yourself to feel rooted. Allow the roots to anchor you to Mother Earth and to anchor you to the divine. Feel safe, feel stable, feel secured. So just take another minute to be rooted in this position, and when you’re ready, you can take a deep breath and open your eyes.

So how do you feel right now?
You can easily take yourself through this visualization any time you need to ground yourself.
