A few weeks ago I watched the movie “Eat, Pray, Love” with the one and only: Julia Roberts. I loved the movie, probably because I love Julia Roberts. I loved the colors, the travel, the exploration and the different cultures in the movie. I have to say though, that I enjoyed the book more than the movie because it gave me a deeper look at one woman’s search for herself in Italy, India and Indonesia. Having lived and traveled in many countries myself, it made me wonder about the driving force behind people’s tendency to search for things far away, when many times, what they are looking for is right in front of them.
Elizabeth Gilbert, who wrote the book, is sharing her own journey with the reader. One of my favorite scenes was when Gilbert sat in an outdoor café in Rome with a friend. Gilbert’s friend declared that every city–and every person–has a word. Rome’s word is “sex,” the Vatican’s word is “power,” and New York’s is “achieve.” Later in the story, Gilbert discovered her own word, “antevasin”, Sanskrit for “one who lives at the border.”
It made me think about my word- which could be “balance”. Years ago, when I chose “Balanced Moments” as the name for my business, I didn’t even know how beautifully this name would match me and my life. I too struggled to create balance in my life for years, learned the hard way, paid the price, and now – am so passionate about sharing my life experience with others.
What is your word? Is it even possible to find a word that will retain its truth for a lifetime?
Should we choose a few words and not only one?
If you had to find a few words – would “balance” be one of them?
