It all started a few years ago when I became obsessed with positive affirmations and mind control. Creating positive affirmations (or empowering statements, if you prefer) has since become second nature for me. Not only do I use so much myself, but I help my coaching and healing clients create their own affirmations to change their thinking and attitude.
Usually I ask my clients to write down any negative messages that come up for them around a specific area of their lives. When they bring this list to our coaching sessions, I help them change their thinking by creating a positive and empowering statement.
The next step is the commitment to practice the affirmation. I usually suggest writing it, posting it in different places, reading it, and saying it out loud.
A few months ago, I gave a presentation in a room with a dry-erase board. I was inspired by the possibilities for my affirmation practice. I put one red marker in my bathroom, next to a big mirror I share with my husband. I would write my affirmations on my mirror, and read them or say them out loud before I took a shower, brushed my teeth or washed my hands. Before I knew it, my husband started expressing his creativity by adding funny images to my words. Being creative as he is, he would leave some room for additional creativity and I would add some drawings and make it funnier. Since then, our mirror (glad it is big enough) became a collaborative message board for us and we both use it creatively.
Of course I share my wisdom with my clients. This week I was inspired by Melissa, one of my dedicated clients, who took it one step further with her husband when she got markers in different colors and created a mirror/affirmation board. She says it is very creative, decorative and funny and has even added some romance to her life since both Melissa and her husband use it to write cute messages to each other.

I am off to buy some other markers to add some color to my mirror!
