Can Reiki really help?

By Michal Spiegelman

When I found Reiki many years ago, my husband Shmuel was skeptical. But I fell in love with Reiki from the moment I found it. As a beginner, I couldn’t explain how it worked. I just knew that it did. Shmuel challenged me to provide scientific evidence that Reiki was “real.” All I said was, “It makes me calm. It heals my heart. It brings me clarity.” Of course, my response was not enough for his analytical mind. But watching me heal deeply made him curious.

A few months after I became a Reiki Master, I attuned Shmuel to Reiki. Reiki attunement is the process that a Reiki Master takes someone through to “turn on” that person’s ability to tap into the universal energy. A year passed. I didn’t push. I didn’t give advice. I let Shmuel find his own way.

One day, I returned home after running errands, and Shmuel was a lot more excited than usual. “You won’t believe what happened,” he said. He told me that he had hit his head when he walked out of the shower. The pain was brutal. Then he remembered Reiki. Sitting on the bathroom floor, he placed his hands where the pain was. “It was unbelievable!” he said. “I felt tingling in my hands, and I literally felt the pain lift gradually. It was gone within minutes.” His hands were super warm. He could feel the energy moving inside his body.

Since then, Shmuel has been a fan of Reiki. He has a different relationship to it than I do. While I practice Reiki daily in formal and informal ways—breathing, teaching, living, and loving it—Shmuel returns to Reiki once in a while, whenever something happens, and his experience then is always profound.

It was never my plan to become a Reiki professional.

By 1996, I was deeply depressed after losing six of my eight pregnancies, some in the sixth or seventh month. Each loss caused another crack in my heart. Therapy helped me understand that I had to let go of the grief, but nothing made it possible for me to heal. Until I found Reiki. Within a few weeks of treating myself with Reiki daily, the sadness lifted, and the joy that I had been missing for years came back.

What started as a healing practice became my spiritual practice. For many years now I have started and ended my day with Reiki. Even before getting out of bed in the morning, I lay my hands over energy centers in my body and let the Reiki flow. At night, I fall asleep with the Reiki connection. Over the years, Reiki has guided me to find my purpose and my calling.

I am not the only one. There are millions of people all over the globe who practice Reiki daily. The results speak for themselves. And they look different for different people. But the common thread is deep healing and transformation.

Call it Reiki, God, Universe, Spirit, or Source Energy, this power that is greater than you can help you like it helped me. Reiki can help you feel better. It can help you increase your overall sense of well-being and bring you back to balance.

Why do results look different for different people?

One of the unique qualities of Reiki is that it is a self-guided system that always works for the highest and greatest good of the person.

Whether giving Reiki to yourself or someone else, you don’t have to direct the healing energy in any way. The Reiki knows what the system needs. You simply allow it to go through you and let it flow to wherever it’s needed the most.

Recently, I posted a question on our Reiki Facebook Group asking people to share the most significant gift that Reiki has brought to their lives. The answers varied: “Relax and alleviate stress.” “Focusing.” “Peaceful.” “Love.” “Clarity, calm, and stability.” “Perspective. Enormous perspective.” “Balance and healing.” “24/7 accessibility to source energy.” “Reiki helps me control my anger and spiritual growth.”

I always tell my students that it’s hard to know in advance where the Reiki will take them. But what we know for sure is that it always works for their highest good and brings them the results they need physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually.

As the founder of Beacons of Change, my mission is simple: to raise the vibration in the world one person at a time and to empower others to do the same.

I can’t do it alone. Because “healing together outshines healing alone” (the Beacons of Change Manifesto).

Please know that I am not “selling” you a class when I invite you to learn Reiki with me. I’m gifting you with an opportunity to heal, grow, and expand and to help your body remember its natural healing abilities.

Our Reiki Training for beginners is a live, virtual training. This link will tell you all about our Reiki training.

We are happy to report that all our students (yes, all of them!) who have taken our virtual classes say that the experience was strong and profound. Many shared that the ability to feel safe and relaxed at home and not worry about other people’s energy and health allowed them to fully benefit from the experience. Even students who were skeptical about learning Reiki online tell us that our training changed their perspective on virtual learning.

The testimonials I share below were written by students who have gone through our training. Please take a few minutes to read what they say. It will help you better understand Reiki and how it can help you.

Close to 2000 people who have gone through our Reiki training chose to improve their wellbeing and live a divinely guided life. I hope that you will chose it too.

“One of the things I loved about the Reiki class was the depth of thinking and authenticity Michal and Jen brought to the teaching of Reiki. They made the learning process very accessible. Every step of the way, I felt, ‘I can do this.’”

Nancy L. Seibel, Maryland

“The energy was amazing, and the class had an easy flow. It was great receiving the physical manual in the mail before class because holding the manual in my hand as I watched the videos and demonstrations really helped me. Giving Reiki to myself since I took the online class has been awesome. It really raises my self awareness, and it gives me a way to love myself. When I put my hands on my abdomen, it almost feels like putting my hands on my inner child, loving her.”

Joan Kling, California

“Before I took Michal’s Level I Reiki class, I was in a dark place suffering from chronic pain. The peace and positive energy that flowed through my body the first time I experienced Reiki sold me on the practice, and ever since, my stress levels have reduced, my pain is less intense, and I can feel my life shifting for the better toward my ultimate goal of feeling true joy.”
Julie Souther, Georgia

“Before starting my Reiki journey, I was meditating daily and trying to find my spiritual connection, but I still felt somewhat unaligned. I was also struggling with chronic back and hip pain from running injuries. As I began including Reiki in my daily meditation practice, it helped immensely with my pain and provided the greater spiritual alignment I was seeking. I recently made the decision to become a certified Reiki Master. Now I use Reiki daily to align and center myself, and it gives me a deep, fulfilling connection to universal energy. I only wish I had known about Reiki years ago. It has helped my chronic pain immensely and gives me the deep, fulfilling connection and spiritual alignment I was seeking.”
Carrie Weaver, New York

Your post reminds me of the power of telling our stories. They open up interest and curiosity and encourage a willingness to give it a try. Everyone can relate to finding themselves struggling with emotional or physical pain; it’s part of the human experience.
