Self-empowerment at the gym.
One of my clients says she’s always tired at the gym. People always say exercising is energizing, but that’s not how it works for her.
I usually don’t have this problem, but this morning at the gym I noticed myself getting tired. I also noticed that as soon as I started to think “I’m tired”, “I didn’t get enough sleep”, I have no energy”, I should take it easy”, I actually felt more tired physically. It was as if my thoughts were telling my body to be tired. So I thought, well, if my thoughts can make me tired, maybe they can do the opposite too. I tried this fun technique:
I started to say to myself “flash” affirmations, while doing my exercises at the gym. I made them up on the spot, and kept coming with up more and more words. So every time I lifted the weight I said: “I am …”
This is what it sounded like:
I am energy, I am power, I am strength, I am confidence, I am motivation
I kept going:
I am love, I am kindness, I am compassion ,I am forgiveness
I honestly felt better when I was done with the weight lifting. My brain was focusing on the empowering words and couldn’t feel tired or frustrated at the same time. I raised my energy level by using the power of my mind.
The Bottom Line: The thoughts you create and the language you use can change the way you feel moment by moment.
Ask: How can I change my thinking right now to make me feel better?
Affirm: I am energy… I am power…. I am strength… I am…..
