Decision making can be so draining!
You’re afraid of making the wrong decision. Before you know it, you are stressed and obsessed. You go over all of your options, imagining the possible outcomes. You think you’ve finally figured it out but then, a minute later, you lose confidence and doubt creeps in again. Even after the decision has been made, you second-guess yourself, and the torment continues.
Decision making is an art. When you master this art, you free your energy for other uses.
Here’s a 4-step process to help you make decisions and stay sane:
- Connect with your intuition. Pause, get quiet, and listen. Call it intuition, gut feeling or inner-wisdom. Doesn’t matter. Simply look within and ask: what should I do?
- Imagine the outcome. See yourself in the future, and look at the results of your decision, as if it was happening right now.
- Ask yourself how it feels. How do you feel as you consider your vision from the previous step? Look within your heart and connect to the feeling. If a few options came up in step 1, do the same process with each of them and compare how you feel when you imagine each outcome. You’ll know how to proceed after checking in with your heart. Listening to your gut feeling and taking it into your heart will lead you in the right direction.
At this point overthinking might take control and prevent you from being at peace with the decision you made. This is where you have to move to the last step of the process:
- Trust in the decision making process. Take control over the negative voices in your head and trust yourself.
